How Many Vehicles Have You Traveled In A Day ?
There has been strike in some parts of Terai region in
Nepal for more than 100 days. The border-blockade since past two months has
made life difficult. Shortage of petroleum and medicines is the most prominent
problem. And in this period I travelled in 9 different vehicles today! Have you
ever travelled in so many vehicles in a single day? If not, enjoy reading my
experience!
1.
My neighbor uncle and I happened to leave
house at the same time. I asked if I could get a lift from him. He dropped me
in Bhainsepati Chowk and went in his work.
2.
The public bus took me from Bhainsepati
Chowk to Ekantakuna. There, I saw student-chain in protest of the
border-blockade.
3.
I travelled to Kalimati from Ekantakuna in
public micro. The chain was upto past Balkhu. They carried pamphlets that
stated their right to study and live freely and that the border-blockade should
be abolished
4.
After I returned the books in college
library, I went to Gyaneswor in Sajha Bus. Sajha Bus is the only one which
still gives fare-discount to students.
5.
A dai confirmed that I could meet him. I went
to Bhrikuti Mandap so that I could catch another vehicle that could reach his
house.
6.
I did not know where Macha Pokhari was. I
asked a local guy which micro goes there. He was goint to Machapokhari as well.
7.
I met dai and left to Ratna Park again. It
was already dark by then.
8.
In Ratna Park the last bus of my route had
left. So, I travelled to Lagankhel.
9.
At Patan Hospital, I waited to hitch-hike.
A dai in scooter volunteered. He and I separated shortly after Mahalaxmisthan.
Then I walked 20 minutes to home.
Seven public transportation in between of two
hitch-hikes. That’s how I travelled in 9 vehicles in a day. This was not the
first time though. On my friend Dhiraj Khadka’s b’day, I had travelled in 9
vehicles as well. But today I spent Nrs. 98 in bus fare!
