GURU POORNIMA 2072
The
word “Guru” is made up of two Sanskrit words “Gu” and “Ru”. “Gu” means ‘dark’
and “Ru” means ‘ray of light’. “Guru” means the one who takes us from darkness
to the light. As a symbol of respect towards our Gurus, we celebrate Guru
Purnima. It falls on the Purnima of Shrawan month as per Lunar Calendar. As per
Solar Calendar it is the Full Moon of July. This year, we celebrated it with a
surprise!
This
was the last semester of our college and obviously the last Guru Purnima as
well (Last 3 years, we had exam vacation during Guru Purnima). I thought of
giving a surprise to all the teachers who have taught us in the last eight
semesters and brought significant changes in our life. I informed my classmates
about my secret plan! They all
agreed. They were so excited to celebrate with teachers. (we don’t have any
celebrations events in our college and we have to do it on our own L
).
As
per the plan, everyone chipped in
some money and I and Palash went to buy the Surprise
Cake for the teachers. We wanted a BIG-seven-pound-cake. No such cake was
available and it had to be ordered. We had no much time and bought two 3 pound
cakes. Later on, it turned out to be better that we bought two small ones
rather than one big one. Back in college, the class was about to finish (yes,
we bunked a class to get a cake for teachers! ). Before I put the cake in the
canteen refrigerator, everyone was amazed to see me carrying two cakes!
We
invited all the teachers in our classroom. Some of us some went to teachers
room, some phoned them and some pulled them out from their classes. Few were
out in lunch break and some had already been out of college. We presented the
first cake, lit on the candles and gave a big applause for the teachers. There
were teachers who taught us from the first semester. We had Santosh Prajapti,
Reshma Maharjan, Pushpa Dhamala, Shree Krishna Sulu, Biswo Raj Kafle, Sankar
Gongaju, Suman Sharma, Ganesh Gautam and many others. They were amazed and happy
as well for what was happening in the room.
My
friends urged me to give a thanks note to teachers. I managed to mumble a few
lines giving a thank you speech for teachers. BRK sir gave a speech
representing teachers. Prof. Dr.
Surendra Shrestha cut the cake and we distributed the cake to all the teachers
present. All of us were smiling and happy and had a glow on the face! We again
invited the remaining teachers and this time our HOD Siva Raj Baral sir cut the
cake. We had fun again!
It
was a great experience having a last minute surprise plan and celebrating Guru
Purnima with teachers. It seemed not only we students but the teachers were
happy and had fun as well. This will be a memorable event of our college life:
the first and last Guru Purnima we celebrated. I hope teachers shall remember
us in some part of their heart as well. We all are very grateful to all the
teachers who have guided us in several paths of our life.
Happy
Guru Purnima!
