DAY 9 :: Photo Kathmandu

DAY #9
8 November, 2015

When I reached Chyaasal I saw huge scaffolding in front of a wall. I guess it was for the Fearless Collective workshop. Heather had paint on her eye but her eyes were safe. All of the volunteers had never been in scaffolding, including me. Nati Kaji dai, one of the coordinators brought a ladder and tied it to the top layer of scaffolding.

The first thing to be done wad whitewash the wall. Utsav and Saroj had already started painting the wall white. I was excited to climb on 48 feet high scaffolding. This was something I had never done and which I would never get to do later on. An uncle climbed to the top of the scaffolding and I followed him. I was conscious though; with one hand I was holding the scaffolding and painting the wall with the other one! After a few climb ups and downs, all the volunteers were also fearless of the scaffolding and the height! This was the first time ever that I painted something! The paint drops were on all over the dress but I enjoyed it!

Whitewashing the wall was finished and we double coated it as well. Meanwhile, Shilo was with children helping them cut the paper. We put the paper on wall and taped it in order to check its dimensions. I suggested drawing an outline of the paper. We all joined in to glue the paper picture on the wall. All our hands were gluey! This was the first time I was doing all of these and I was loving it!

In the evening, we volunteers went to have Momos. We were so hungry that 4 of us ate 6 plates of momo. We returned back and continued painting the wall. Saroj, Paresh and Utsav drew motif. I painted a small part of motif. It was clumsy but I was proud of myself for having done that. Nati Kaji dai gave me a lift to Kontibahi where presentation was being shown. I met Nayan Tara dd again there. It was getting late and I left but missed the last bus and had to walk an hour again!

Today was the first time I e-v-e-r painted something. Thanks to the ‘Fearless Collective’ team and the volunteer team and ‘Photo Kathmandu’ team.
